Homecoming Weekend Recap

One of the busiest weekends of the semester has already passed! This year’s homecoming weekend took place on October 15th, 2016. It was a busy weekend to say the least. The ambassadors could be seen at many events over the weekend including the Volunteer Reception and Kids Corner.

Friday night’s volunteer reception kicked off the weekend. As ambassadors and university volunteers, we were all welcome to the volunteer reception held in Breezedale. Many ambassadors used this event as a networking opportunity to talk with the alumni board and various other university officials and volunteers.

Saturday morning, bright and early, the ambassadors headed to the Kovalchick Complex (KCAC) for our annual Kids Corner. This year, Julia, our Alumni Relations chairperson revamped a lot of our activities to include many more kid friendly games and activities. The new additions this year included face-in-hole photo spots, PLINKO, whack-a-mole, and several others. Katie, one of our seniors, bravely volunteered to paint Dr. Driscoll’s face this year at the event. Also new to the Crimson Huddle were the ‘Instagram Frames’ that were handled by the ambassadors.

Thanks to several members of the Alumni Engagement committee, we had some fantastic new activities! A crowd favorite among the children was the addition of our face-in-hole photo setups created by Courtney. Even our advisor and former advisor enjoyed ‘testing’ them out for us!

For those who wanted a different style picture, also new this year was our ‘Instagram Frames’. Several ambassador volunteers walked around the Crimson Huddle tables offering to take photos of alumni on their personal devices. The frames were a real crowd pleaser, and many photos featuring them can currently be seen on social media!

The Crimson Huddle ended with a fabulous show by our IUP Cheerleaders and Marching Band, before directing everyone to the field for kickoff. The football game definitely put everyone in a great mood, with a 48 – 19 win over Slippery Rock!

All in all, it was a great weekend full of IUP pride, celebrating, and seeing old friends!
